Elements of the Diaspora:
Location - Foreign Purple
Cultural identity - Shell inlay
Heritage - Black
After working with a range of portraits you
discover that all skin tones are some combination
of orange/red/magenta. By sampling a piece of skin
then subtracting its value, you are left with its
opposite colour. Every ethnicity now sits in that
blue-green range and skin colour is as visually
trivial as it should sound.
Digital Manipulation of an image of indentured
labourers blackbirded from Vanuatu, borrowed
from the State Library of Queensland, to highlight
the absurdity of perception.
